Cannon St. (est. 1888)
This painting comes from my current station located on Cannon St. in Charleston, SC. Home to Engine 106, this station first opened its doors in 1888. This station once housed horse drawn steam powered pumpers and Station Journals dating back to 1911 are still available for viewing. Cannon St. is rich in history and full of stories, some that are best left inside the walls of the station. .
This painting started out strictly black and white. Towards the end I decided I wanted to add a little extra depth and chose to add yellow and orange highlights resulting in a sepia tone look. I started this one hoping for a quick turn around. I soon realized that to do this painting justice, I better pull up a seat and dig into all the detail. From a technical standpoint this was easily one of my most challenging paintings to date. At 11″x13.5″ this painting has over 50 hours of working time.
